Green woodcarving

Green woodworking is the use of a section of a tree trunk that has just been cut and still contains all of the water the tree has sucked up through its roots. it has a lot of water held it the celluar structure and the cambium layer just beneath the bark layer.

In order to make something from a section of a tree trunk we cut it to the length we need. Then split this round log into sections and create what is called a billet (a block of wood we can use to carve a shape from). A billet of wood is cut in a radial or tangetial orientation depending on the preffered asthetic for thenĀ  item to be made.
